The Global Movement of High There!
by Todd Mitchem
We made a decision this week. It wasn’t easy, but it was important. It came to our attention that we could now go global if we wanted. This news was a surprise, but the allowance was made because we are a responsible social network and because we focus on building connections rather than just showing off your weed. These are new standards set by the app stores and new guidelines that will change the face of our company and increase our social network participation overnight. But still I had a moment of pause.
I thought about the numbers of people (Time Magazine estimate between 119 million to 224 million in 2012) who believe in cannabis being legal (51% in the US alone according to the latest Gallop poll) and I realized that the time to connect the masses was now.
I thought of my mother living in a state where the laws are still being worked out. I thought about her struggle with cancer when she had no one to talk to about cannabis as a solution and felt so alone in her own town. (Cannabis saved her life!) And then I thought about all the people out there who just wish they could meet someone else who shares their belief that cannabis should be legal everywhere. People like me who want to meet a great person to date or become friends with that has a non judgemental mindset, who is open and accepting.
I feel like I have a responsibility as a leader and we have a responsibility as a company with “high” hopes to get people connected – all over – right now. The movement I refer to as Weed 2.0 needs to evolve and start to unite the masses. But we can’t forget to continue building on the strong foundation provided by cannabis activists, advocates and business leaders who have put so much work in. I hope that High There! as a social network can contribute to this movement.
Today, as we open the platform to the entire planet, I am certain meeting new like minded people will take on some exciting new paths.
So to you, that person somewhere far away from my desk in Colorado – High There! is here for you. To you, that mother just like mine, fighting cancer in a state where the stigma still exists around weed, High There! is here for you. To all of you in states where cannabis is now legal, High There! is definitely here for you too! And to the countless women and men who simply want to meet other like-minded, amazing people in a non-judgmental way, High There! is here for you also.
We are so much more than a dating app. I heard somewhere in the news recently say we are the new combo of Facebook and Tinder. As these are two of my favorite brands, I appreciate the comparative, but I feel we offer something unique, don’t you?
Welcome to High There! – the world’s first global social network of cannabis enthusiasts and supporters.
